SBV to SRT converter

SBV is the caption format YouTube Studio exports. Almost nothing else reads it, so the file usually has to become .srt before a player, an editor or a translator will accept it. This converter reads the comma-separated SBV timing lines and writes standard SubRip entries.

Questions about SBV and SRT

What is an SBV file?+

SubViewer-style caption format used by YouTube. Each entry starts with a line like 0:00:03.233,0:00:08.233 followed by the caption text, with a blank line between entries.

Does the timing change?+

No. SBV writes hours without a leading zero and uses a dot before milliseconds; SubRip pads the hours and uses a comma. The moment in time is identical.

Where do I get the SBV file from?+

In YouTube Studio, open the video, go to Subtitles, then download the track. The .sbv option is offered alongside .srt and .vtt.

Need to translate the subtitles too?

Converting a format keeps the same language. To translate subtitles into another language while the timing stays exactly where it is, the Mac app does it in batch across 100+ languages, with an editor and validation before export.
